A Little Sewing…

This top is going to be finally finished to fit a king size bed. It’s the biggest quilt that I have quilted, so I’m keeping it pretty simple. I do love my 820 machine with the bigger throat space that makes it all possible!!

I was at a weekend quilting get-away with the staff from the Happy Quilter. What a wonderful weekend with my friends!!!

First I finished the last of these blocks. I call them my “treasures”. Now I have to plan a quilt for them.Then I put this top together (and put the borders on today). It will be a donation to Quilts of Valor.Next I made another handbag. I like this design and plan to write the pattern up soon.And my final project – put together a few leftover squares for this piece that will be the center of a quilt sometime.

A Quick Method to Hang/Photograph

I used a staple gun to fasten a piece of fabric to a long, narrow piece of wood. Then I added a few cup hooks. I pin the top of the quilt to the fabric.

I can prop it up on top of two open closet doors for smaller quilts. For larger quilts, I put 2 tiny nails into the ceiling molding and I use the cup hooks to hang it on the nails. It’s a simple, quick way to get a photo of a quilt.

A photo of the whole quilt. I’m thinking I will name it Banff 2011 because while we were hiking there, I was inspired to make a quilt using the greens, blues, grays and yellows all around us on the trails. The border really shows the colors I was intending to use. The red just worked it’s way in.

This will be a class in the January – March schedule at the Happy Quilter. Another wonderful pattern by Laundry Basket Quilts!

And I trimmed it today as well. Now it just binding and washing/blocking. Then I have to figure out how to get a good photo of the whole thing!

A Caution and Some Progress

It is a good idea to tape the edges of the plexiglass with something REALLY obvious so you don’t ever start doodling right off the plexiglass and onto your quilt. I taped it up with painters tape. Of course this was after I learned the hard way (and I knew I would eventually do this – but it was only a tiny dot and it’s been discretely hidden).And here’s a photo of the quilting-in-progress. I finally made it through all the line quilting with my walking foot, and now I can move along faster with the free motion designs. I even have a plan for what will go in the open areas of the fans.
